(as it is written) of the LORD, “Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;”) And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law (as it is written) of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.”And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, “Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.”
And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.
And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

6. Flee
And when
the Magi were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.”When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt have I called my son.”

9. Man Shall Not Live by Bread Alone
And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
so was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of some devil. Being forty days tempted of this devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

And the devil said unto him, “If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.”
And Jesus answered him, saying,
“It is written that, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’”And
then the tempter came to him, and he said, “If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.”But he answered and said,
“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.’”And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
And the devil said unto him, “All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.”
And Jesus answered and said unto him,
“It is written, ‘Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.’”And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, “If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: For it is written, ‘He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.’”
And Jesus answering said unto him,
“It is said, ‘Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.’”Then the devil saith unto him, “If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, ‘He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.’”
Jesus said unto him,
“It is written also, ‘Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.’”Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, “All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.”
Then saith Jesus unto him,
“Get thee hence, satan: for it is written, ‘Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.’”Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
So he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of
the satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee:
and first to John in Bethabara.
10. What Seek Ye?
And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who art thou?”
And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, “I am not the Christ.”
And they asked him, “What then? Art thou Elias?”
And he saith, “I am not.”
“Art thou that prophet?”
(written of by Moses)And he answered, “No.”
Then said they unto him, “Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?”
He said, “I am ‘the voice of one crying in the wilderness,’ ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as said the prophet Esaias.”
And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
And they asked him, and said unto him, “Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?”
John answered them, saying, “I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.”
These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

18. My Yoke Is Easy, and My Burden Is Light
And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying,
“As ye go, also preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’”“Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.”
“Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses, Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.”
“And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony
autoiV and the Gentiles.”“But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.”
“But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.”
“And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
“Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.”
And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

26. By Two and Two
And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits; and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
And they went out, and preached that men should repent. And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them. And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.

41. Lazarus, Come Forth
Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.”
When Jesus heard that, he said,
“This sickness is not about death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.”Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
But when he had heard
that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.

Then after that saith he to his disciples,
“Let us go into Judaea again.”His disciples say unto him, “Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?”
Jesus answered,
“Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.”Then said his disciples, “Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.”
Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
Then said Jesus unto them plainly,
“Lazarus is dead.”“And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.”
Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.”
And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem,
for Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem

Then when Jesus came, he found that
Lazarus (the brother of Martha and Mary) had lain in the grave four days already.Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off: And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.
Then said Martha unto Jesus, “Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.”
Jesus saith unto her,
“Thy brother shall rise again.”Martha saith unto him, “I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
Jesus said unto her,
“I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though apoqanh, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never apoqanh unto the age. Believest thou this?”She saith unto him, “Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.”
And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, “The Master is come, and calleth for thee.”
As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him. Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him. The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, “She goeth unto the grave to weep there.”
Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, “Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.”
When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled.
And said,
“Where have ye laid him?”They said unto him, “Lord, come and see.”
Jesus wept.
Then said the Jews, “Behold how he loved him!”
And some of them said, “Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?”
Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
Jesus said,
“Take ye away the stone.”Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, “Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.”
Jesus saith unto her,
“Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?”Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid.
And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said,
“Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.”And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice,
“Lazarus, come forth.”And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin.
Jesus saith unto them,
“Loose him, and let him go.”Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.
Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, “What do we? for this man doeth many miracles. If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.”
And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, “Ye know nothing at all, Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.”
And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.
Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
